Thread Veins (Facial veins/Rosacea/Telangiectasia)
- Introduction
These are visible superficial veins within the skin occuring on the face legs and trunk. Spider veins arise from a central vessels. Although not know for certain, in some instances it may be that venous hypertension (described above) is transmitted to these very superficial vessels causing them to become varicose (dilated and tortuous). The other causes of telangectasia (thread veins) are multi-factorial and include, congenital, hormonal, traumatic (chemical / physical / infective / radiation) and acquired disorders to name a few. History and examination is directed towards excluding these underlying conditions to enable appropriate therapy to be targeted at the underlying cause.
