Carotid Disease
  - Introduction

Carotid disease (arteries in the neck) may well be the harbinger of an acute stroke. Acute strokes are often preceded by a "mini-stroke" or TIA (transient ischaemic attack) or temporary loss of vision (amurosis fugax). TIA clinics have been set up in the region to identify those patients that may be at risk. These clinics are run on a "one stop" basis with rapid access to brain scans (CT or MRI) in addition to Carotid Duplex.
