Rigid Sigmoidoscopy - Introduction

Rigid sigmoidoscopy is a commonly performed test performed in the outpatient clinic setting. A short inflexible tube, approximately 20cm in length, is passed via the rectum to allow a limited examination of the lower part of the colon. The procedure allows a rapid assessment of this common site of disease with no prior preparation and often at the first clinic visit.
